More than 500 military personnel attended the Career Transition Partnership Job Fair in Bournemouth.

While there, they met with representatives from more than 130 leading British businesses.

CTP is a partnership agreement between the Ministry of Defense and Right Management Ltd, the global career and talent development expert within ManpowerGroup.

This is the eighth CTP Job Fair this year and is part of a full program of 11 events across the UK in 2024. Employers attending the Bournemouth event represented a wide range of sectors including retail , manufacturing, renewable resources and engineering.

Armed Forces leavers are highly motivated, capable and ‘work ready’ but often need support in weighing their options to find the next suitable career path.

Adrian Peters, Director of Operations at CTP, says: “With excellent transferable skills and experience, service movers bring many valuable features to the wider business community.

“Their input is particularly needed now, with employers across the country struggling to recruit and retain talent – a consequence of reported skills shortages across all sectors in the UK, which have reached the highest level of 18 years of 80 percent.

“CTP Job Fairs play a vital role in helping in this nationwide fight, enabling organizations to fill key skills gaps and vacancies, while offering new futures to thousands of Service leavers every year.”

One of the businesses that had a presence at this event is Centrica.

Laura Blair, Program Manager. Ex-Veteran Forces Route, Centrica “Wow! What a fantastic, impactful event for Centrica.

“CTP’s job fairs allow us to engage directly with a range of talented service leavers – and this event was no different. Brilliantly organized and buzzing throughout the day – we came away with a lot of interest in our Street of Strengths.”

The latest ManpowerGroup Talent Shortage Survey (TSS) data revealed that 80% of UK businesses are struggling to fill roles. Events like CTP support finding candidates for businesses.

Natalie Gillette, Talent Acquisition, SiXworks in attendance said: “Participating in the CTP Career Fairs is invaluable for SiXworks, providing a unique opportunity to connect with service leavers and showcase our career opportunities.

These fairs strengthen our ties to the community and highlight our commitment to supporting veterans. Retirees bring the discipline, commitment and problem-solving skills essential to IT innovation.

We seek individuals with military experience for their work ethic, technical skills and adaptability. All essential qualities for our secure-by-design solutions, cloud computing and advanced infrastructure projects.”

CTP provides relocation services to those leaving the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines, regardless of time of service, it has been the official resettlement provider of the Armed Forces for 25 years, helping 280,000 Service leavers to their movement in civilian life.
